The study found that chewing on a stick of gum three times a day for 30 minutes at a time can help restore normal gut function after the operation. Pretty amazing, huh?

Regular eating also helps, too, but for many patients, they are overcome with nausea after the procedure, so the gum plays a big role in helping them quite literally get back on track. It does this by tricking the body into thinking that you’re eating.
